Introduction: A Transformative Experience for Volunteers
We recently concluded our training program for young social volunteers working in early childhood education settings with children aged 6 months to 6 years. During this online course for the German Diakonie Baden Wuerttemberg, Kiki Kreuder and I had the privilege of guiding these young professionals, sharing our knowledge and experience.
Building a Strong Team Spirit in a Virtual Environment
Despite the virtual format, the group demonstrated remarkable cohesion, fostering a strong team spirit that transcended the digital divide.
Exploring Key Topics in Child Development
Over five days, we explored crucial topics such as fostering enthusiasm for learning, understanding child perspectives, and child development theories. A significant focus was placed on discussing inner attitudes, emphasizing the importance of perceiving children as competent, self-sufficient individuals with their own ideas and decision-making capabilities.
Case Study Discussions and Collaborative Problem Solving
We also dedicated time to case study discussions, where participants presented challenging situations, and the group collaboratively sought solutions under our guidance.
Prioritizing Well-being: Incorporating Self-Care for Volunteers
Recognizing the demanding nature of their work, we also dedicated a session to self-care strategies. We emphasized the importance of being aware of their own needs and how prioritizing their well-being is essential for providing effective care to others. Volunteers explored practical techniques and tools to incorporate self-care into their daily routines.
Gaining Insights from Volunteers’ Experiences
This enriching week not only allowed us to impart our expertise but also provided valuable insights from the volunteers’ experiences. It’s heartening to know these dedicated individuals are now supporting children’s growth across various communities.

Collaborating with Kiki: A Rewarding Partnership
Collaborating with Kiki was particularly rewarding, as our shared values and ideas facilitated an exceptional synergy in our training approach.
Looking Ahead: Future Seminars and Continued Collaboration
We look forward to future seminars and the opportunity to continue this important work.
